Getting called for that job interview
In most cases, you'll send in your resume through regular mail or email. Some
companies may want you to fax in your resume or even walk in with the resume for
an on-the-spot interview.
If you're faxing the resume, be sure to include a cover letter. Very likely, you
won't be using your own fax machine. If so, include full contact details in both
the cover letter and resume. As we mentioned elsewhere, the cover letter has
only one job -- to get your resume read. Keep it brief -- mention the post
you're applying for and one or two pertinent skills / experiences that qualify
you for that post.
Sometimes, companies will want you to walk in for an interview. In that case,
dress exactly as you would for an interview. This situation is more common where
the job calls for extensive interaction with customers -- the employer wants to
gauge how well you present yourself and interact right from the word go. You may
get a brief interview on the spot as well, to be followed by a more formal
interview later.
You don't need a cover letter for a walk-in interview. In a sense, you are
the
cover letter! Assume that you are being interviewed, no matter what you're doing
-- talking to the receptionist, waiting in the front office, etc. Smile and be
polite.
