Know your contact when appearing for a job interview
You already know the importance of doing research on the company you wish to
build your career at, before you walk into an employment interview. But don't
stop at just finding information on the company. Here's one of the best tips --
know the person who will be your interviewer.
When you're invited for an interview, ask for the name of the person you'll be
meeting. That way, right at the start of the meeting, you can use the
interviewer's name, even before being told who he or she is. This conveys a
great impression -- that you're a person who is always on top of things, and do
your homework well.
Go beyond knowing just the name of the interviewer, however. Ask questions and
find out their exact role at the company, any significant achievements they have
to their credit at the organization, samples of their work, etc.
Try to obtain the name of the person you will be working for, the names of your
future colleagues and superiors as well. At your job interview, talk about some
of the things you've learnt about the people and their work. Mention how much
you look forward to working with them. This is always a great way to
differentiate yourself from the other applicants for the job.

Like to think a little out-of-the-box? Here's an idea -- consider doing work on a freelance basis, either part-time or full-time. There are actually large numbers of people who work from the comfort of their homes. And very profitably too. But you do face one big problem -- connecting with companies who have work to offer.
Here's an excellent site that's organized to help you find freelance work. We've always found them to be a useful source for work-at-home jobs. They offer a trial membership for as little as $2.95; and you get access to hundreds of jobs. Check them out now -- you may be surprised at what you can turn up.
